Psychologist in Residence
Purnell School seeks a full-time Psychologist in Residence to begin August 15, 2018. The Psychologist is an integral member of the Learning and Wellness Department, which consists of the Head of School, Director of Student Life, Educational Psychologist, Learning Specialists, School Counselor, and Dean of Students. S/he will collaborate with faculty, staff, and health professionals to promote a culture of personal and institutional wellness at Purnell. With an understanding of how social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual health relate to teaching and learning, the Psychologist helps to create a safe and healthy learning environment. S/he will live in faculty housing within a dormitory in order to facilitate the therapeutic support of students.
-Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or differentiated instruction
-Coordinates with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain students’ needs
-Assists in development and implementation of comprehensive student wellness plans
-Enables students to cope more successfully with school, home, and environmental stressors
-Assists parents/guardians in gaining a better understanding of students’ strengths and weaknesses
-Serves as a liaison between the school, families and community providers
-Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology; conducts in-service programs as requested
-Participates in team meetings and consults
-Possesses knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
Successful candidates will possess a degree in psychology; a PsyD or PhD is preferred. Minimally, 3 years of experience with adolescent students is ideal. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Housing and utilities are provided free of charge.
